Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed,
This is a masterful work written by a Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Don’t let the sheer size of this book intimidate you. It is fascinating reading and goes remarkably fast. Collapse takes you on a journey through both ancient failed civilizations and modern ecological “hot-spots” to give the reader a clear view of paths that different societies have taken, and how they determined whether their peoples lived in long-term sustainable harmony or fell into social and ecological chaos and collapse. The parallels, and lessons, for our modern world are undeniable. The question is whether we will choose to learn from our planet’s past and build a viable future, or will we choose to repeat old patterns and fall into the abyss. Highly recommended!
